The Amtrak Network: A network of long- and short-haul trains are provided by Amtrak. Included among its long-haul routes there are the "Superliners" and
"Viewliners."
The
Superliners include, among others: the California Zephir (Chicago-Oakland/San Francisco), the Capitol Limited (Chicago-Washington), the City of New Orleans (Chicago-New Orleans), the Coast Starlight (Seattle-Los
Angeles), the Empire Builder (Chicago-Portland/Seattle), the Southwest Chief (Chicago-Albuquerque-Los Angeles), the Sunset Limited (Los Angeles-San Antonio-New Orleans-Orlando) and the Texas Eagle (Chicago-San
Antonio).
Among
the Viewliners are the Crescent (New York-New Orleans) and the Silver Service (New York-Jacksonville-Miami).
The
Sunset Limited is the most spectacular of the "long-hauls". The cities and landscapes by themselves would make this trip a dream vacation: the Gulf beaches, Pensacola, Mobile, New Orleans, the
bayous, the Mississippi Bridge, going across Texas including Houston, San Antonio, the Del Norte Mountains, New Mexico and Arizona, followed by views of mountains or extinct volcanoes, and finally California
including Los Angeles. This 3000-mile odyssey makes for an unforgettable trip, crossing eight different states.
The
Superliner is has double-decker cars and includes four types of First Class: Deluxe First Class for two passengers, Standard Bedroom for two people, Family Bedroom for two adults and two children and the
Accessible Bedroom for persons with restricted mobility. First Class service includes many extras such as all meals, steward service 24 hours a day, special drinks, snack bars and also films. Deluxe Bedrooms
have a private bathroom with shower and toilet. A shower and toilets are available to passengers with other bedroom types.
Alaska Railroad: The latest to appear among American railway services is the Alaska Railroad, letting you experience splendid wildlife discovery adventures in Alaska. From its compartments or dining cars, you'll see large bald eagles, whales, glaciers and North America's highest peaks.
The
dining cars have a relaxed atmosphere, no reservations are required, and all meals are prepared on board. Travel packages being all-inclusive, there is a large variety of desserts and drinks.
So
that passengers will get the most from their trips, many young people are employed in season to serve as guides. Emphasis is placed on Alaska Railroad's history, and on points of interest along the way.

The Denali Stars leaves each day from Anchorage and Fairbanks, stopping in Talkeena and Denali.
The Coastal Classic connects
Anchorage and Seward, providing splendid vistas of walls of ice, notched peaks and impressive gorges.
The Glacier Discovery connects Anchorage and Whittier, and skirts along the edge of splendid landscapes.
